Jars can be Trendy too

Not just any house hold item can launch it’s way to pop culture trendiness, but the mason jar is most definitely an exception. The mason jar was originally successful in the 1800’s because of it’s ability to preserve food but in the last few years has reached a new height of success due to the multiple creative purposes it provides.(Huffington Post) This glass jar that a decade ago would have been recognized as the home of Grandma’s home made jelly is now trending in home decor, everyday food and beverage transport and especially bars and restaurants.

If you’re feeling fun and creative there are a lot of different things to do with a mason jar; from a candle in a jar, to a picture frame, to light fixtures, to going old school and storing your food and candy, the mason jar never ceases to offer purpose. While these functions are fun, the true rise in mason jar stardom lies in the food and beverage industry. Every other cool bar in Montreal has started to serve their signature drinks in mason jars. I asked my mom what she would have thought a few years ago if she was served a cocktail in a mason jar, “well, I would have thought they were out of clean dishes”, responds my mother. To my mom’s surprise this trend has caught on and there are many bars that have become well known for their signature drinks, two of which are La Belle et la Boeuf and La Distellerie, both with locations across Montreal. Although mason jars have been around since the 1800’s. the trendiness has seen a massive growth in the last few years due my generations craving for all things edgy and rebellious. And what’s more rebellious than enjoying a cocktail or making a candle in something that was initially created to preserve food? Well, nothing.
